Bertram L. Kasiske, M.D.

Dr. Bertram L. Kasiske, medical director of transplant nephrology, was awarded the National Kidney Foundation’s Garabed Eknoyan Award in 2003. The award was created to recognize an individual who has promoted the mission of the Nation Kidney Foundation (NKF) in making lives better for people with chronic kidney disease through special contributions to the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (K/DOQI).

The National Kidney Foundation K/DOQI Learning System (KLS) is a comprehensive approach to improving patient outcomes through chronic kidney disease (CKD) education. K/DOQI provides evidence-based clinical practice guidelines developed by volunteer physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Dr. Kasiske is on the Board of Directors of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), and participates in the National Kidney Foundation, the American Society of Nephrology, and other groups working to improve kidney transplant treatments. Since 1996 Dr. Kasiske has been an active member of the American Society of Transplantation, serving on several committees and as a member of the Board of Directors from 1996 to 1999.
