The Transplant Center—Pancreas transplants to treat diabetes
Pancreas after Kidney Transplant (PAK)
A diabetic with a previous kidney graft, or an individual with the opportunity to receive a kidney from a living donor, can proceed first with a kidney transplant and then wait for a deceased-donor pancreas. This is appropriate for patients who have already had a kidney transplant from either living related donor or a deceased donor to treat chronic renal failure and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
This treatment would not be appropriate for people with uncorrectable coronary artery disease, advanced peripheral vascular disease or age greater than 60 years.
