Polycystic Liver Disease
Polycystic liver disease, also known as infantile polycystic disease is a rare genetic condition more often affecting the kidney. The kidneys are enlarged and contain many "cysts," which appear to be microdilations of the collecting ducts. Often, cysts are also detected in the liver; these patients tend to have advanced liver disease marked by cirrhosis and portal hypertension. The condition is called congenital hepatic fibrosis when hepatic involvement surpasses that of the kidneys. Developmental disorders and diminished function of the kidney and liver are common.
