Caroli's Disease
Caroli's disease, and its less known sister condition, Caroli's syndrome, is a congenital malformation of the bile ducts within the liver (intrahepatic). While bile flow remains unobstructed, the ducts are abnormally and segmentally dilated leading to liver disorders that include abscess, lithiasis (stones) and biliary stasis (slowed function).
Commonly diagnosed in teens, Caroli's disease is characterized by jaundice, abdominal pain and fever. The condition may be inherited.
