End-stage Heart Disease
Heart failure is associated with many forms of heart disease, including cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction, and ischemic myocardial damage, and with other systemic abnormalities. As heart disease advances, the body's ability to maintain homeostatic balance continues to erode, gradually leading to multi-organ dysfunction. Hydrothorax, liver and spleen enlargement, pulmonary edema and bronchial wheezing are among the many extracardiac signs of end-stage heart disease leading to heart failure.
