The Transplant Center—Kidney/Pancreas transplant to treat diabetes

Why pancreas/kidney transplant can be effective

When it is diabetes that causes kidney failure, a kidney and pancreas transplant may be considered. Because pancreas transplantation is currently the only treatment of Type I diabetes mellitus that can consistently put an end to the need for injections and establish constant normal blood sugar levels, many patients choose to replace a failed kidney and a pancreas through transplant, either simultaneously or afterward.
