Bernhard J Hering, M.D.
Dr. Bernhard J. Hering is Associate Professor of Surgery at University of Minnesota, Director of the Islet Transplant Program at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Associate Director of the Diabetes Institute for Immunology and Transplantation, and holder of the Eunice L. Dwan Diabetes Research Chair at the University of Minnesota.
He is an internationally recognized leader in experimental and clinical islet cell transplantation for the treatment of diabetes. His contributions have been instrumental in making islet transplantation available to an increasing number of patients early in the course of diabetes. He is especially interested in Type I Diabetes.
Dr. Hering is a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences. He has authored or co-authored over 150 articles and over 20 book chapters.

Dr. Hering’s major research interests include islet-processing techniques, immunobiology of islet xenograft rejection in the preclinical pig-to-nonhuman primate model, as well as immunotherapeutic strategies for the prevention of islet allograft failure in autoimmune Type I diabetes. Dr. Hering has conducted research in Cell Biology and Immunobiology of Islet Transplantation in Preclinical Models.
